Drabble: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I'm spamming! OMG look at me I'm spamming! *should be sorry, but is proud*

Title: Gloss
Summary: Buffy and Faith
A/N: written with [info]kita0610's prompt, red and pink gumballs. Did not work in the gumballs. You can still prompt here; just don't specify a fandom.

Gloss

When Faith was Buffy, she wore red lipstick. That should’ve been their first clue.

Faith likes to fight and fuck, likes blood and doesn’t hide it. Been caught in the act a thousand times, walks with open hands to show the color. Years later she’s punching out the shower and still can’t get that damn spot out.

Buffy does the laundry, shampoos twice, always rinses, and paints her nails pink. She kills every night and smiles at school dances.

But Buffy’s pretty sure when Faith was Buffy, she was only being honest. Any innocence Buffy has is just painted on.

Nicely written. But I'm not sure I agree with your last line. I think there was, and still is, innocence in Buffy. That's part of what makes her so heroic: in spite of tragedy and pain and being hardened by life, she still believes that people are good and that the world is worth saving.

It's a very good drabble, though. :)

I agree that Buffy still has innocence, but I can also see how Buffy wouldn't think she does. And the last line IS from Buffy's POV.

And the last line IS from Buffy's POV.

Yeah, I thought I'd established that. Glad it read that way for you, though I'll be sure to be more careful next time!

Yea, but depending on when this was set, Buffy might not believe it herself. So the last line makes sense in that regard.

(Er. Sorry to butt in.)

Maybe. Depends upon the time when this is set. It might be one of those times where she may not believe she's got any innocence left, whether or not that's actually true.

Like some people down below said, the last line is meant to be how Buffy sees herself ("Buffy's pretty sure..."). I assumed people would take the setting to be at one of those times in canon in which she saw herself as something horrible, which does happen from time to time. But I'll be more careful to establish POV next time.

Thanks!

Ooh, very nice. Wonderfully written, and I love this comparison/contrast.

Shiny. (and reminds me I must paint my toes.)

I can never paint my nails because I can never keep them up. I'll have old nail polish on until the nail grows completely out. Which is just gross!

And thanks.

I miss my shows!!!! Not that I was ever around when they were on. But I miss the fic, too. Thanks for the prompt.

Ah...very interesting.

I always felt Buffy's discomfort at the thought that she'd lost her innocence meant she had some left. Tends to work that way. Hard to tell when you're feeling it, nonetheless.

I think she has some, too.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I always love those parallels between the Chosen Two. As Buffy said in Dopplegangland (?)'there but for the grace of God...'

But Buffy’s pretty sure when Faith was Buffy, she was only being honest. Any innocence Buffy has is just painted on.

I can definitely see later Buffy, S6 Buffy, thinking that. Great drabble.

Thanks. I think it was made by [info]ladydistain. It captures such an intense moment.

Oh, that makes me want Wishverse!Buffy/Faith.

OMG, me too! I suspect if you were to write Wishverse B/F my squee could be heard in Australia :-) I've had this Wishverse B/F plot bunny gnawing at me for years, and every time I even think of the story it makes me so damned sad for the two of them...yes, I know they're fictional, but still. I hope maybe one day I'll write it.

Thanks bunches, hon.

You are most welcome.

Interesting idea to contrast Buffy and Faith using colors. And I agree that Faith in Buffy's body was, in a way, a more honest version of Buffy.

[info]lettered

June 5 2008, 00:45:08 UTC 3 years ago

I'm not sure I agree, but I think Buffy sometimes thinks so!

Thanks for reading ;o)

Very nice. I can totally see Buffy thinking that about herself.
